EPW – European Protected Waveform

With the increasing security threats to Satellite Communications (SATCOM) systems, a notable capability gap to effectively address these threats has been identified in various reports from the European Defence Agency (EDA) and the European Union (EU), including the Key Strategic Activities (KSA) and the Coordinated Annual Review on Defence (CARD).

Against these backdrops and motivated by the objective of enhancing EU autonomy, 19 key stakeholders within the EU’s military satellite ecosystem have united to form a consortium.

Our collective objective is to develop the first European Protected Waveform (EPW). The project will develop a multi-layered security and resiliency solution centered on the principles of efficiency, security, affordability, and interoperability. It aims to address the current and future challenges, such as increased throughput demands, dispersed operations, mobility, and emerging security threats related to SATCOM.
